YooA’s charming energy and ability to draw people into her personality is one of the many attributes that has brought her so much success. Fans already know that she’s outspoken and easily makes people around her feel comfortable. Her bubbly personality is adorable, and fans are happy to be able to see her return with a new album. With her last album having a very magical vibe throughout the album, sparking feelings of being a part of nature, YooA has taken on a different concept this time around. She hopes to that her fans will find find bursts of energy and happiness by listening to this album. One thing is for sure, that when her fans are happy, YooA is able to find happiness, too. Kpopmap had the pleasure of sitting down with YooA to discuss her new album. Here is what she had to say to the readers of Kpopmap as well as her fans! To start things off, your new mini album is titled “SELFISH.” What is the message that you wanted to send to everyone with this album? I hope that everyone who listens to this album will get happy energy! I hope that the title song gives you energy and that the other songs give you a fantasy that is particular to YooA. How were your fellow members when you were preparing for this album? Did they offer any words of advice? Actually, to tell you the truth, I didn’t tell the members that I was preparing for a new album. Everyone was so busy with their own things that I didn’t want to be a burden to them. When the album was almost finished being put together, the members asked me first- “How is your health? Are you eating well? How are the songs?!” The members all have faith in me, so they weren’t that worried about me. Hah. Fans know you to have a very bright and energetic personality. Are there times when you feel down, and what are some things you do to make yourself feel better? Usually when I’m not in a good mood, I physically and emotionally need some time. During these times, I usually spend some time alone or I try to communicate with my fans. I want to give only good energy to the people I love. I also found that when you spend time being alone, you come back a stronger person. I’ve always felt so undeserving of the love I receive from my fans, so I want to always be in a good spot to receive love with thankfulness. I found your song, ‘Bon Voyage’ from your first mini album to have had a very healing and inspiring feeling to it. Are there any songs that you listen to regularly to feel strength and heal? I listen to Ariana Grande’s ‘My Hair’ a lot these days. It seems to create a natural inspiration and a calming mind for me! It’s been a couple years now since you’ve last released a solo album and was active as a solo singer. How have you grown as an artist since then? Well, music activities feel new every time and I tend to worry a lot. Haha. But I know that when I look back someday, I’ll be proud and confident in who I am right now. You’ve also been featured on a few K-Drama soundtracks! Are you usually an avid K-Drama watcher? Are there any shows that you have watched recently that you would recommend to your fans? I recently watched “Little Women” and I enjoyed it a lot! There is a lot of tension throughout the whole series and it was thrilling. I think I was able to relieve a lot of stress. The actors were so amazing, too! If you had to pick one song off your new album that you think best exemplifies who you are as an artist, which one would it be and why? I think everyone who listens to my album will like all of the songs, but the song ‘Melody’ is my favorite. I think the energy and tone are the most similar to who I am right now. Also, it has a very child-like forest fantasy feel, which I think conveys who I am really well. I saw a recent interview of you saying that you can’t cook, but you like cooking. What are some dishes that you have been making lately for yourself? I’m so far away from cooking, so I think cooking ramyun is the extent of what I’ve been making for myself. Hahaha How does your brother show his support to you when you are about to release a new album? Do you ever go to him for tips on dancing or other advice? My brother was also very busy filming the show “Street Man Fighter,” so rather than giving advice, we cheered for each other! Haha. Like, “You’re doing well!” Usually, siblings are not that sweet to each other, so we’re pretty blunt with our expressions. And lastly, is there anything you would like to say to your longtime fans and supporters? Every moment, I can feel your love and interest. I know that the love I receive is not a given, but I’m so thankful. Every day, I can see, read, and hear the love that you give me. The start of my energy is always transmitted from my fans. Thank you for letting me stand with a good heart, and I want to return that with even more love. I love you all so much and I miss you! Thank-you again YooA for letting us and your fans get to know you a bit more! We hope that you are happy and healthy while promoting this new album. We wish you all the success!
