Here are some of the K-Drama series starring K-Pop idols in the first half of 2022. Note that the idols included in this article are either a supporting or lead cast in their series which have been aired or is currently ongoing as of the date of this publication. We did not include upcoming dramas in this list but we will keep updating it as more series starring idols air.   

1. “Broke Rookie Star” - ASTRO’s Rocky

The web drama tells the story about K-Pop idols and the reality that many viewers may not see or fully be aware of. This somewhat comical expose follows an idol of a rising group, HwiYeon, who unlike the rest of his members is not as popular, thus he has to take up odd jobs to be financially stable. Played by the funny and talented ASTRO’s Rocky, his brilliant portrayal of this character left many viewers and fans vividly impressed by his budding acting skills.  

2. “Tomorrow”  - SF9’s RoWoon

The webtoon-based fantasy drama tells the story of the Special Crisis Management Team of the underworld. Starring SF9’s RoWoon as Choi JunWoong, a job seeker who ends up in a coma after he tries to save a man from committing suicide, he strikes a deal with the Jade leader to serve with the Special Crises Management Team, in return, he will wake up in 6 months. Charismatic, fearless, headstrong, funny, and always willing to help everyone, his character was at the center of every story arc each character had.  

3. “Yumi’s Cells 2” - GOT7’s JinYoung

The second part of the 2021 hit webtoon-based romantic comedy sees Kim GoEun return as Kim Yumi and GOT7’s JinYoung as Yoo Babi, her new romantic interest who viewers along with all the cells (except for Reason so far) are all rooting for.  

4. “Soundtrack #1” - ZE:A’s Park HyungSik

The romance musical drama tells the story of 2 friends who start questioning the true status of their friendship as feeling starts to bloom when they move in together. In this series ZE:A’s Park HyungSik plays the role of Han SunWoo, a photographer with a very innocent personality who falls in love with his best friend Lee EunSoo played by Han SoHee.  

5. “Semantic Error” - Former KNK’s Park SeoHam and DKZ’s JaeChan 

The campus romance drama tells the story of two students with contrasting tastes and personalities who have a fated relationship after a misunderstanding ensues between them. Starring former KNK’s Park SeoHam as Jang JaeYoung and DKZ’s JaeChan as Choo SangWoo, so far this year, the series has been one of the most popular BL dramas released this year and has led to commercial success for both the series and its actors.  

6. “Business Proposal” - VICTON’s ByungChan

The office romance drama that became everyone’s favorite romantic comedy this year stars Ahn HyoSeop as Kang TaeMu, Kim SeJeong as Shin HaRi, Kim MinGue as Cha SungHoon, and Seor InA as Jin YoungSeo. In this drama, VICTON’s ByungChan stars as HaMin the younger brother of Shin HaRi. He is funny, charming, and with the best reactions that added another comical layer to the already funny moments in the series.  

7. “Spring Of Crush” - former B.A.P’s Yoo YoungJae

The historical romance BL drama starring Yoo YoungJae as Jim Gemstone and Kim Song as Choi HyeSong tells the story of a young man who on the run is forced to act as the third daughter of a wealthy family in order to survive and a scholar whose love for books and martial arts have kept him away from finding a suitable wife to marry. Their constant interactions turn fated when they are both forced to marry and as one tries to accept his fate, another tries to hide his real identity.  

8. “Crazy Love” - ASTRO’s Yoon SanHa

Starring Kim JaeWook as John GoJin and f(x)’s Krystal as Lee ShinAh, the series tells the crazy romance story between a vengeful secretary with a month to live and her mean boss who everyone wants dead. In this series ASTRO’s Yoon SanHa plays the role of Lee SuHo the brother of Lee ShinAh, he is stubborn but cute and adorable, his silly antics often irk Lee ShinAh and their sibling relationship is as chaotic as it is comical.  

9. “Ocean Likes Me” - Holland

The BL Drama tells the story of a chef who after a scandal finds himself in a small town with an opportunity to start afresh and a musician who comes back home as he thirsts for a new dream. Starring Han GiChan as Han BaDa and Holland as Tommy, Tommy realizes Han BaDa’s weakness and tries to use his charms to help him make his business successful, while their attraction for each other grows.  

10. “Two Universes” - SF9’s InSeong

The web drama tells the story of a woman Kim Byul played by Lee SooMin who receives a fortune that her future husband will be named WooJoo. The fortune comes true but complicated as coincidentally 2 men named WooJoo come into her life at the same time. SF9’s InSeong plays the role of Shin WooJoo, a hair designer who is popular for his skills and his good looks. His charming personality and calm nature make him the perfect man for Kim Byul.  

11. “Color Rush 2” - VIXX’s Hyuk

The second season of the BL web drama “Color Rush” sees Choi YeonWoo played by Yoo Jun now searching for both his mother and his boyfriend YuHan. Helping him do this is SeHyun played by VIXX’s Hyuk, a strong-willed and dutiful classmate of YeonWoo who with his strength and smartness tries to protect him from the dangers that ensue in his quest.  

12. “Oh! Boarding House”  - 2Z’s HoJin

It tells the funny and complicated relationship between the residents of a hostel. A clumsy caretaker, a bookworm, a lazy student, and a teacher. In this series, 2Z’s HoJin plays the role of Nam JaeWoo, a student who doesn’t like going to school and prefers to lounge about in the PC room or hostel.  

13. “Sh**ting Stars” - CNBLUE’s Lee JungShin and N.Flying’s Lee SeungHyub

The romantic comedy-drama starring Lee SungKyoung and Kim YoungDae tells the story of people who work in the entertainment industry. Their real-life experiences behind the scenes, the struggles, trials, and triumphs they face in their quest to make the celebrities shine like stars. In this series, CNBLUE’s Lee JungShin plays the role of Do SoHyuk, a brilliant attorney and advisor to the entertainment company. He takes pride in his work and skills. Also starring in the series is N.Flying’s Lee SeungHyub stars as Kang SiDeok a gukbap restaurant owner turned actor.  

14. “Why Her?” - UP10TION’s Lee JinHyuk

Starring Seo HyunJin, Hwang InYoup, and Bae InHyuk the Law school romance drama depicts the story of a woman who with her complicated past, tries to turn her life around after falling in love. In this drama, Lee JinHyuk plays the role of Nam ChoonPoong, a former idol trainee with a bright and charming nature who also hopes to one day be the president.  

15. “Bloody Heart” - Former MBLAQ’s Lee Joon

Starring Lee Joon as King Lee Tae, Kang HanNa as Yoo Jung, and Jang Hyuk as Park GyeWon, this historical drama tells the story of a king, who seeks to full control of the palace and revenge for the death of his parents, by bringing to justice those who were involved in their murder. Things turn awry when his first love is sent into the palace as the daughter of the Vice-Premier Park GyeWon, a man at the center of all the wrongdoings in the Kingdom.  

16. “Alchemy Of Souls” - Hwang MinHyun

The fantasy romance drama tells the twisted fate of different people due to the changes their souls must overcome. In this drama, idol Hwang MinHyun plays the role of Seo Yul, a brilliant nobleman whose love for the arts makes him see the world in an innocent way.  

17. “Dear.M” - NCT’s JaeHyun

Along with his friends, Cha MinHo (played by NCT’s JaeHyun) seeks to uncover the mystery behind the handle “M”. Their journey toward finding M is however filled with several twists and turns as complications from friendships and romantic love interests come alight. JaeHyun impresses many with his acting in this series, he embodies the role of Cha MinHo perfectly. Dutiful, strong-willed, and charismatic, he is one that we inevitably found ourselves rooting for.  

18. “Miracle” - SF9’s Chani and HwiYoung

“Miracle” tells the story of idols and the struggles they face before and after they have achieved their dreams. In this series, Chani plays the role of Luis, a global star after gaining massive popularity overseas, returns to Korea to collaborate with a new group N/S. Hwiyoung plays the role of Min SiWoo, an idol who didn’t plan to become one in the first place but decided to live the dream of his crush, Lee SooRin (played by Kang MinAh) who hoped to become an idol but couldn’t due to an accident.

They might have been cameos in the series but they were the center of the storyline for each of the episodes they appeared in.

“Tomorrow”- WINNER’s Yoon and VIXX’s N

WINNER’s Yoon amazing portrayal of a young man who loses his wife to an untimely death. Blaming himself, he seeks to end his life as he truly cannot think of any reason to carry on. But thanks to his wife and the special crisis team management, he is able to put his broken pieces back together. VIXX N’s episode told the story of a man and his pet. A puppy about to die thinking he is a burden on his owner decides to run away and commit suicide. But that decision brings more hurt to his owner as he is desperately searching for him. With the help of the special crisis management team, he is found and their reconnection was one of the most heartwarming moments in the series.   Which of these series have you watched?
